THE POLLIT FAMILY

CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

by Tennessee Williams
A plantation in Mississipi. It's Big Daddy's 65th birthday and the whole family's back to celebrate. His favourite son, Brick, a former football star with a broken leg;  Brick's young, beautiful wife, Maggie the Cat, who is trying as hard as she can to lure her husband away from the bottle and back into her arms; Big Daddy's older son Gooper, whose wife is about to bring into the world the sixth in a line of 'no-neck monsters'; Big Mama, and the grandchildren. Everyone's there to celebrate. But why is there so much talk of the inheritance? What did the doctor tell Gooper that Big Daddy doesn't know?
"What's that smell in this room? Didn't you notice it? Didn't you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?"
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof won Tennessee Williams his second Pulitzer prize for drama, was made into a major film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, and is considered by many to be one of the best plays of the 20th Century. With a top-notch creative and production team, this is sure to be one of the biggest shows of the year, to be performed in Oxford from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd February 2013 (6th Week, Hilary Term).
